I decided to work on the driver's side valve cover to add some aluminum screen inside the baffles that lead to the PCV valve. This mod was listed in the 96-98 Cobra forum on this post: http://www.modularfords.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33910 . It was at the link labled "Eliminate Oil in Your Intake ~ Valve Cover Baffle Mod". Since they moved to a new server, the link has been broken till this date.
The article recommends that both valve covers be modified, but that makes no sense to me since the air comes in from the passenger's side and goes out of the driver's side, so I only modified the driver's side.
Here are pictures of the unmodified valve cover:
Here are pictures of the thirteen 5.5mm self tapping screws that hold the baffle in place: (I used a 7/32" socket)
Here is a picture of the baffle after it has been removed:
Here is the valve cover with the baffle removed:
I cut a couple of 4" squares of aluminum screen. I pulled a could of wires from each edge and folded the ends of all of the remaining wires over to secure the wires so I will not have bits of aluminum wire floating around in my engine:
I then crumpled up the screens and put them into the small triangle-shaped spaces under the baffle:
I did the same with a 4"x12" piece of screen for the long middle space and a 4" square for the baffle channel that leads to the PCV grommet:
I did the same with a 8" square piece of screen for the big area at the front of the valve cover:
I checked the fit of the baffle, and decided the channel to the PCV grommet needed a bit more, so I cut a 6" square and smashed that all around the 4" piece I had there already
That fit much better, so I reinstalled the baffle over the screens, using Blue Locktite to ensure the screws stay in:
